As we step into a new year, I would like to wish everyone a very happy 2026, filled with stimulating ideas, fruitful collaborations, scientific success, and personal happiness.
The quote of the month, drawn from Milan Kundera, playfully reminds us that even in an age of neuroscientific sophistication, the unity of body and mind resists simple reduction. Between the grey matter of the brain and the lived experience of emotion, desire, stress, and social connection, there remains a fertile space for curiosity, dialogue, and imagination.
The upcoming workshop next Monday, January 19th, organized by our MaSco Master’s students, is a case in point. It will bring together leading researchers to examine how social factors influence cognition and stress responses, spanning perspectives from cellular neurobiology to artificial intelligence, and from social psychology to clinical interventions.
I would also like to remind you that the ILCB is co-organizing the 8th Annual Meeting of the Society for the Cognitive Science of Culture, which will take place April 22nd–24th, 2026, at Le Cube, Campus Schuman, Aix-en-Provence. This international meeting will bring together researchers from diverse disciplines to explore how culture shapes cognition—and vice versa. The submission deadline is approaching quickly, at the end of this month. I warmly encourage you to contribute and help make this event a scientific highlight of the year.
I hope many of you will be able to join these events, exchange ideas, and continue to build the collaborative spirit that defines our institute.
Wishing you all a stimulating and inspiring start to the year. Warm regards, |
