The Institute Language, Communication and the Brain (ILCB) offers :

ILCB PhD grant

The ILCB offers up to three PhD grants in 2023 on any topic that falls within the area of language, communication and the brain. The ILCB assembles several top research laboratories in linguistics, psychology, cognitive neuroscience, medicine/neurology, computer science, and mathematics that are located in Aix-en-Provence, Avignon and Marseille (https://www.ilcb.fr/about/partner-laboratories/).

 

Each candidate for an ILCB PhD grant must be supervised by at least two members of the ILCB from two different laboratories with whom the candidate develops a complete PhD project (for an updated list of potential supervisors, see https://www.ilcb.fr/potential-collaborators/  or check the ILCB member directory for a list of all members https://www.ilcb.fr/members/directory/). Interdisciplinary projects are preferred.

 

Candidates can propose their own PhD project or respond to a pre-proposal made by ILCB members and published on the ILCB site prior to the deadline https://www.ilcb.fr/pre-proposals/.

 

Note that ILCB PhD students benefit from an excellent research environment that includes free access to neuroimaging and experimental platforms (MRI, MEG, EEG, eye tracking, speech lab, baby lab, virtual reality, primatology….), research support from a team of engineers (https://www.ilcb.fr/about/crex/), scientific activities (PhD program, annual retreats, seminars, workshops), and funding opportunities for experiments, publications, and conferences.

    1. Title
    2. Name of the PhD supervisor(s)
    3. Short Summary
    4. Scientific context/state of the art
    5. Objectives and hypotheses
    6. Methodology
    7. Expected results
    8. Brief statement about the relevance of the project for the ILCB
    9. Proposed Timeline
  1. CV and Master degree grades (if available)
  2. Letter of motivation
  3. One letter of recommendation or contact information of a potential referee
  4. Supervisor Information and Acceptance Form

Duration: 3 years

Deadline for submission: June 12, 2023

Selection of candidates for the audition: 
Audition: June 27, 2023

Start Date: October 1, 2023
Monthly salary: 1 975€ (1 541€ net) for a period of 3 years
